How to Lose Belly Fat Via the Fruits and Vegetables Diet

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Fruits and vegetables may be the best thing to help you lose weight. To try to stop those hunger pangs from your stomach in the middle of the night, these fruits will be the best answer. And for those who do not take vegetables, how do you expect to lose your belly fat?

How to Lose Belly Fat Via the Fruits and Vegetables Diet

But I am not suggesting that you turn vegetarian straight away after reading this article, but I do hope that you will increase your intake of these powerhouse foods. Together, combined with other diet routines, you may lose weight naturally, and easily.

First of all, you should note that these plant foods are low-calorie, low-fat and extremely filling. And if you get them fresh from your supermarket or organic farm, you can be sure that you're not ingesting any processed ingredients or chemicals.

All of these foods contain unique phytonutrients that can significantly reduce the risk of cancer. These natural bioactive compounds are found only in plant foods, and work with nutrients and dietary fiber to protect against disease.

Secondly, you should consume a wide variety of colorful fruits and veggies to reap these health benefits. Because these phytonutrients work better together, you can fight disease better by eating different kinds of vegetables than compared to eating only one kind.

In fact, different phytonutrients have protective effects on different parts of the body. Recent studies show that there is emerging evidence to suggest that these nutrients slow down the process of brain-ageing, and can improve cognitive functions such as memory.

To keep track of which fruits and vegetables are better choices, separate them by colors of the edible portion. Just follow this simple list below to choose the right foods and boost your health!

White
Eat cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and cabbage instead of radish, potatoes or bean sprouts.

Red
Choose tomatoes, red peppers and strawberries more often than apples or watermelon.

Yellow/Orange
Select papayas, rock melons, mango, oranges, pineapples, starfruit, carrots and pumpkin instead of corn or bananas.

Green
Go for darker green varieties such as spinach, broccoli and kiwifruit which are more nutrient-dense than lettuce or pear.

If you want to know how to lose your belly fat fast, then you must definitely know the type of fruits and vegetables that you should eat. Hopefully, with this article, you can change the way you look with what you eat!

Best Way to Lose Belly Fat After Baby

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

The average weight gain during pregnancy is 25 to 35 pounds. If you were overweight before becoming pregnant you may have gained more. We are all familiar with the phrase, "eating for two," and sometimes it is very much the case once you realize just how much weight you have gained after having your baby. Regardless of how many pounds you put on, you definitely want to find a way to lose belly fat after baby.

Best Way to Lose Belly Fat After Baby

The good news is that the fat surrounding the belly (visceral fat) may be some of the first fat to burn in comparison to other areas of the body. The fat around our stomachs reacts better in terms of physical activity. As you lose weight, you will more than likely notice the reduction in your belly before any other area. Let's take a look at the best way to get started.

Your Way of Eating is the Key

80% of your weight loss will be determined by your diet. The term diet is not meant in terms of the fad diets you may come across. The term is meant as a lifestyle change. For example, some people become vegetarians or a raw foodist. Others simply choose to eat healthier. Those are examples of eating for life and not for the short-term.

One diet that I've been reading up on is said to make losing fat almost effortless. It is called the paleo diet or caveman diet. This way of eating avoids grains, processed foods (bread, baked goods, pasta, etc.,) and refined sugar. The food eaten in this diet include lean meat, fresh veggies, fruit, and nuts. I suggest doing much more research on this diet, but in my opinion, it is probably one of the best in terms of weight loss.

Perform the Exercises that Burn Fat Best

Women tend to enjoy cardio exercises much more than lifting weights. While cardio can help you lose weight, it backfires if you become a cardio junkie and never perform strength training. Too much cardio can cause our bodies to take energy from our muscles. However, we should be building more muscle as it is much more effective in burning fat. One pound of muscle burns more calories than one pound of fat.

You can combine cardio and weights for a full body workout. This is better known as interval training or circuit training. It is an efficient fat burning workout that takes no longer than 45 minutes per session.

The Ultimate 30 Day Get Ripped for Summer Workout

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

There are plenty of workout programs that promise you will get ripped in 90 days, but let's face it - sometimes you don't have 90 days to spare. That last minute wedding, family reunion, or in my case - summer vacation to Vegas!

The Ultimate 30 Day Get Ripped for Summer Workout

Can you really see ultimate results in only 30 DAYS? The answer is absolutely - YES! But you have to be ready to work. This isn't a magic pill or overnight fairy godmother wish come true. This schedule isn't for the faint of heart. Only those with a strong desire to see real results need apply. So are you ready for the P90X2 INSANITY THE ASYLUM Hybrid Workout Schedule?

What is the P90X2 INSANITY THE ASYLUM Hybrid Schedule?

The P90X2 INSANITY THE ASYLUM Hybrid schedule is a combination of two of the most extreme programs in the Beachbody library. Most people are familiar with the original P90X, and who hasn't seen Shaun T's Abs popping across your TV screen during the Insanity infomercial?!

But did you know that both of these world-class trainers created sequels to their best selling workouts? Both programs will have you training like an athlete. Tony Horton takes his world famous P90X exercises to the next level by requiring more balance & core moves during your weight lifting moves. Shaun T incorporates speed, agility and power training from his days as a track athlete that will cause your body to explode with results!

How do I handle doubles in the P90X2 INSANITY THE ASYLUM Hybrid Schedule?

When you look at the PDF schedule you will notice there are days where two workouts are listed. Personally, I split these routines up, which allows for some recovery time during the day. For example: Day 2 lists Asylum Vertical Plyo & Asylum Relief. On that day I would get the more demanding Vertical Plyo routine done in the morning, and use the low-key Relief routine to wind down before dinner in the evenings.

Many of the P90X2 days are combined with the all-new X2 Ab Ripper. Time permitting, you can jump straight into the 15 minute Ab routine immediately following your resistance routine.

It really depends on what works best for your busy schedule.

Which Nutrition Guide do I follow when using the P90X2 INSANITY THE ASYLUM Hybrid Schedule?

This really comes down to personal preference. Both nutrition guides are elite tools. P90X2 offers specific meal plans for vegetarian, vegan and paleo diets, and Insanity the Asylum comes with Shaun T's 14 Day Getting Ripped Diet that you can follow for the full 30 days.

Keep this in mind.

You are attempting to drastically change your body in 30 short days; It is crucial that your nutrition be 100% clean! My normal 'once a week cheat meals' do not apply when following this program!

Whichever nutrition guide you choose to use, follow it to the letter. I highly recommend supplementing Shakeology for one of your meals for ultimate results, and to ensure your body is properly replenished as it endures the next 30 days!

And now I invite you to get a PDF download of the workout schedule by visiting Nelsongy Fitness.

Super Saturated Fats

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

I've noticed an inspiring turn of events. People within the Paleo community are reversing Fat-Phobia.

Super Saturated Fats

Maligned since the 1970s, when questionable research steamrolled into the anti-fat movement (followed by over 30 years of progressively declining public health), Fat may be poised for a comeback.

I have noticed, however, that as much as we Paleo folk love our nuts, avocados, and olive oil, there is still some confusion over Saturated Fat. Just recently I saw a little Facebook Sat-Fat-Fear-Mongering on the part of an excellent Paleo-oriented gym. I wanted to reach out, give that gym a hug, and tell them not to be scared of their bacon and beef tallow.

According to Ph.D Mary Enig, a well-respected researcher of fats and author of Know Your Fats, fear of Sat Fat is rooted in the profiteering of the commercial cooking oil companies - the Soybean Oil Guys, among others.

While I don't see the word "conspiracy" being thrown around with regards to this subject, I tend to believe if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...It's probably trying to sell you Soybean Oil.

"Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease of civilization."

So says Gary Taubes, author of Good Calories, Bad Calories. Taubes has spent over fifteen years on the research, evaluation, and synthesis of thousands of so-called "studies" on health and the connection between diet, obesity, and traditional health markers like cholesterol, heart disease and diabetes.

As far back as the late-1980s, results of a women's health study indicated that more fat and saturated fat consumption correlated with less breast cancer. The Nurses Health Study indicated as recently as 1999 that "for every 5 percent of saturated-fat calories that replaced carbohydrates in the diet, the risk of breast cancer decreased by 9 percent."

And yet I just listened to a radio ad extolling the virtues of a vegetarian diet (almost certainly a low-fat lifestyle) for cancer treatment and prevention.

According to Nora Gedgaudas, author of Primal Body, Primal Mind, Sat Fats from naturally-occurring sources like eggs, grass-fed animal fats and coconut oil raise "good" cholesterol, convert essential omega-3 fatty acids to EPA and DHA (essential for vision, among other things), assist in fat-soluble nutrient absorption, strengthen the immune system, and aid in normal hormone production. Our brains and the protective structure around our hearts are largely composed of Sat Fats.

And to think I spent years drinking the sugar-filled Sat Fat Haterade.

Beyond these obvious benefits, Sat Fats are extremely stable and less vulnerable to oxidation than polyunsaturated fats and even monounsaturated fats like olive oil. I almost always cook with SatFats. According to Dr. Eades of Protein Power:

"Saturated fats aren't prone to free radical attack-only unsaturated fats can be damaged by free radicals."

Eades also says that Sat Fats are "immune to heat damage. You can cook with them, you can hit them with a hammer, you can throw them on the floor and jump up and down on them. And they stay the same. Saturated fats are stable fats."

Not only am I going straight home to start hitting various foods with a hammer (Gallagher-style), I'm going to enjoy myself some eggs, scrambled up in coconut oil, with a side of bacon.

Choosing The Veggie Option

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Have you been pondering becoming a vegetarian? Maybe you find yourself subconsciously eating less meat in your daily diet. It's seems to be a common theme that comes up amongst my clients and friends.

Choosing The Veggie Option

For many it evolves from feeling slightly uneasy about the way our food is reared and treated before it becomes dinner. For some, (like my husband) it's due to their partner taking the veggie option, so less meat gets included at meal times.

I've been vegetarian since I was 16. It was an easy decision for me. I never liked being reminded that the food on my plate was once leaping round fields. The clincher came when I was home from school one day and saw a TV programme about an abattoir. From that day on I hung up the steak knife and 'turned' into veggie Vera.

Looking back it forced me to learn how to cook, and get in touch with food. I didn't want my mum to have to prepare things especially for me, so I brought books, and played in the kitchen to create meals for myself and my family. Although my Dad always used to refuse to eat 'weird veggie food' I made, he is definitely a meat eater!

There is no doubt that while our closest relative is the fruit eating chimp, 6 million years of evolution have bred humans into meat eaters.

Passionate vegetarians will tell you that our bodies are not designed to eat meat. Our digestive system resembles that of the herbivores and the frugivores (fruit eaters). Also, we have a lower stomach acid due to our need to digest mostly plant based foods, whereas carnivores have a stomach acid concentration ten times greater to enable them to quickly digest the meat.

Staunch paleos will argue the opposite, that meat consumption aided the evolution of the large human brain, that fossils prove we actively hunted meat for food, and that if we were meant to eat a plant based diet we would have been equipped with the multiple stomachs of a cow!

To be vegetarian is, therefore, another evolutionary miracle of our developing brains, it is a lifestyle choice. We can now choose to have a meat free diet in a world that provides many alternatives to ensure we are left deficient in proteins and nutrients. Back in our hunting days, food options would have been limited and the tribe would have hunted to survive. We would have hardly been able to pop to the shops for some falafel if wooly mammoth were not to our taste!

I choose to live meat free not because of what we are or aren't suppose to be, but because on a conscious level I cannot bring myself to eat another living creature for my survival, nor do I need to. Pop me into the bush to fend for myself for 6 months, and I have no doubt the survival instinct would kick in eventually and I'd find myself belly down on the river bank tickling trout and chasing down wild pigs!

The main issue many people have with being vegetarian is the belief there will be a lack of protein or nutrients in their diets. There is also the worry about it being hard work and that it becomes difficult to be social. Will friends stop inviting you for dinner as you are to hard to cook for?

The lack of protein is a myth and just needs a little education and research. If you are a fish eating veggie then you have way more options than others like. I really don't worry too much about weighing out my protein. I tend to look at my plate and ensure I always have protein within the meal I'm eating. Adding nuts and seeds, using eggs and cheeses, enjoying legumes a plenty and when I'm doing lots of sporting activities, I up the anti with a good sourced pea or hemp protein. Protein teamed with good fats are an essential part of cell building and muscle recovery so if you are doing any form of sport or are pregnant, you need to ensure you are eating enough to repair and recover and grow new life.

Iron is of course another concern, but again wrongly. Research shows that iron deficiency is no higher in vegetarians than it is in the general population. A well balanced vegetarian diet contains manly iron rich foods. Good sources include legumes, whole grains (including wholemeal bread), wheat germ, oatmeal, green leafy vegetables, peas, broccoli, potatoes, nuts, seeds, peaches and dried fruit. If you are worried about this, then a good quality supplement will usually do the trick and always talk to your Doctor or Naturopath about being tested for iron deficiency.

The main reason most vegetarians opt to say 'no thank you' to meat is the way our food is reared. Big business farming sees animals unable to roam free, and eating unnatural diets to fatten them up for market. They can be pumped full of growth hormone to bulk them out for market, and in turn they get sick and are pumped full of antibiotics to keep them 'well'. They are often fed on diets that contain products grown with the use of fertilisers and pesticides. What we see on our supermarket shelves is the meat from unhappy, badly fed, sick, drugged up animals. We are literally what they eat. How unhealthy they are when alive will be ingested directly into our bodies when we cook their flesh.

Other than rearing and killing your food yourself (not likely in our inner cities!), choosing organic meats is one way to ensure that you know your meat comes from humanly treated animals fed on natural chemical free diets.

I know many vegetarians that will head off on fishing trips and will eat their catch of the day. Also, there are vegetarians who will occasionally eat meat if they know and trust the source. Getting to know your local butcher and talking to them about where their meat comes from is the perfect way to ensure you are fully aware of what you are eating.

At the end of the day, it's your choice to take the veggie option. From a personal perspective, I've never felt healthier, never felt a need to go back to eating meat and am happy that my body performs as I need it to when competing in my choice of sport.

If you're thinking about turning vegetarian then you are half way there and are probably already cutting down on your meat intake. Take the leap and try it for 6 months and see how you feel. If you want to occasionally enjoy meat then make the conscious decision to ensure it's from a trusted organic source and that the animals that provide you life giving food, live the best life they can before they hit your plate!

Are You Ready to Lose 10 Pounds in 10 Days?

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

In reality, a lot of us would like to lose weight and fast. Most want to see the results as soon as possible -presto, instant gratification. It's pretty much understandable. Human as we are, we really feel society's pressure to pursue health and fitness. And with all the diseases cropping up from bad diets or bad lifestyles, or too much weight - it's no wonder people want instant gratification in their quest to lose unwanted fats. So, with this dilemma in mind, try some of the following simple activities to give it all your all and you can lose 10 pounds in 10 days.

Are You Ready to Lose 10 Pounds in 10 Days?

1. Drink Water.

Yes, it's very simple. What this does is it kicks your body's metabolism into gear - that is the metabolism of fat. To give you an idea how this works, let's illustrate it. One of our liver's main jobs is to convert stored fat into energy. And since the liver operates closely with the kidneys, if the kidneys don't receive as much water that it needs to perform its job, our liver shifts into high gear work to compensate for the kidneys not functioning well. This in turn makes the liver pay less attention to its job of quickly metabolizing fat, and instead stores it. That's why it's important to drink water as frequently as possible, and as soon as you get up in the morning. Not only does it help you to shed those pounds, but it washes out all the impurities of your body, flushes retained water because it's getting all that it needs, plus it provides beautiful skin and well-hydrated muscles-good for exercising.

2. Have a Weight Loss Diet Plan.

A low calorie vegetarian diet is actually the best one to go with for this. Start with a diet of fruit and vegetables for 10 days. It's a great way to cleanse the body of its toxins, improve energy, and of course, lose the pounds. Then you can follow up with a Paleo-style diet. Basically, you eat natural and unprocessed food - lean meat, fish, fruits, vegetable, and nuts. Stay away from starches and refined sugars. Better yet, consult your doctor for the best diet plan to shed those pounds real quick.

3. Get Physical.

Running and walking are the simplest way to exercise. It burns away pounds quicker and naturally. A sedentary lifestyle only makes the fat settle more in your body. So get up and get moving. A run in the park, a walk with your dog, a walk to the grocery market, using the stairs instead of the elevator, anything that promotes movement will further your achievement in losing the extra weight.

4. Free Your Mind.

Learn to focus your mind when you are stressed or depressed or anxious. Rid your mind of doubts, envy, insecurities because these will not be able to help you achieve anything. At most, these will only restrain you from getting fit and healthy. So fix your mind on a serous goal. Find ways to stay motivated and inspired. With commitment and hope, you will see real results within 10 days of a healthy, responsible lifestyle.

What Kind of Person Does It Take to Become a Dietician?

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

It takes a special kind of person to not just become a dietician, but to be successful at it. There are a great deal of different dietary paths that one can explore and choose to share with their clients. Paleo, vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and countless others are all different paths one may follow on their dietary journey. Being a dietician means that you must be knowledgeable in all of these areas as diet is not a one size fits all situation.

What Kind of Person Does It Take to Become a Dietician?

Every person, healthy and sick, has a different health profile that demands different things from their diet. An effective dietician must be able to help others choose the right path for their clients based on their family history, disease profile, and personal preferences. Beyond that, there are different religious beliefs and health problems that may make a certain type of diet more beneficial for certain people. This is a key point to being a dietician. You must get to know your client and be able to pick the type of plan that is going to improve their health and also be safe for them. The best dieticians have empathy for the predicament that their clients are in. Admitting that you have health issues that need to be attended to is a difficult admission to make. Cookie cutter approaches will not work when dealing with clients who are struggling. Therefore a good dietician will have a kind heart and a good soul. They will be able to apply that empathy to develop a relationship with the client. The successful dietician will be able to transform this relationship into a success based plan for their client.

Once there is a bond of trust between the dietician and client it makes it easier to get through to a client and help them move towards making better choices for themselves. A good dietician must have an open mind. Finding a dietary solution for someone is not a one size fits all type of process. One must have the humility to admit that a path of action might not be in line with their personal beliefs or preferences. If one is a vegan they may have to admit that a meat based diet is appropriate for a client because of their unique health profile and challenges that they face. A stubborn or close minded dietician will not have their client's best interests at heart. They will end up being more interested in conveying their own beliefs and credos than in helping their client in the most effective way possible. To become a dietician and be successful at it, you'll need to be more selfless than selfish in your ways.

How To Lose Weight, The Straight Facts

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

How To Lose Weight - Why is there so much confusion? It seems like every single day, the next BIG diet comes out. At the same time, the next "scientific breakthrough" fitness machine comes out. Enough is enough. Here are the simple facts.

How To Lose Weight, The Straight Facts

There are 2 major components that you need to keep in mind when it comes to losing weight. They are calories in, and calories out. If you take in more calories then you are burning, you will gain weight. If you are burning more calories than you are taking in, you will lose weight. Simple enough? OK, now let's look at how to lose weight, focusing on these 2 aspects or our lives.

When it comes to calories that you are taking in, that obviously has to do with the nutritional aspect of fitness. On the other hand, when you are talking about burning calories, now we are looking at your physical activity level, mainly your exercise. While changing one of these should impact your weight, the key to getting real results is combining the 2.

How To Lose Weight - Nutrition
I have never been one for counting calories. I think that is a tedious task, and I always felt bad for people that had to do it. As I have gained experience in fitness field, I have developed my own philosophy on this topic. I think that when a person decides that they are ready to lose weight, they need to really look at the calories that they are taking in now, before they start to change their diet. By having an idea how many calories you are consuming now, you can make the right changes to help you reach your goals. Once you have that number, set a "goal" calorie count. Do not just cut your calories in half, or suddenly eliminate everything bad from your diet. 99% of the time that people try this, they get frustrated, and before you know it, they are right back to eating fatty, high calorie, heavily processed foods, and their weight is going no place but up. If you really want to know how to lose weight, do it in stages. If you are taking in 3,000 calories a day right now, cut down to 2500 for a few days, and then 2,000 in a week or so. The following week, cut it down to 1500, and so on. Some people get dangerously low with their calorie intake, and end up not getting the key nutrients that their body needs to stay healthy. Do not make that mistake.

Food To Eat To Lose Weight
Here is a basic guide of what to eat, and what to avoid. There is no magic ingredients, just basic rules to follow. Avoid foods that heavily processed, high in sugar and fat, and that lack nutritional value. When it comes to breads and pasta, pick whole wheat over white. When it comes to milk, stay away from whole. If its fried, don't eat it!

Eat your greens! Vegetables are not only low in calories, but they are high in nutrients, and most are low on the glycemic index (which means that they keep you feeling full longer, keep your blood sugar level, and many more benefits). If you can, eat a salad a day. Drink water, lots of water. Eat lean meats, such as fish, chicken and turkey. Keep the red meat to a minimal, but if you love it, do not totally eliminate from your diet. A lot of vegetarians will tell you that the secret is no meat. Well, try telling that to the paleo's, who's diet is mainly meat, and they insist it is the best. The truth is, the reason both work is that they cut the garbage out of their diets. In short, use your head. If you think it might be bad for you, it probably is.

Exercise To Lose Weight
People can argue day and night about which kind if exercise is best. People use this as an excuse to not exercise, saying that they don't want to do the wrong thing. The key is to get out there and get moving. When you look at the scientific evidence, you are going to burn the most calories by doing total body moves, preferably with resistance, or doing intervals with your cardio. If you do not know where to begin, start jogging! Can't jog yet, walk, swim, ride a bike, do something. The more that you do, the more calories that you will burn.

What is the Best Diet For Acne? Get Your Facts Straight Now

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Are you wondering what the best diet for acne is? If you have acne then it is vitally important to know what you should eat and what you should not eat if you want clear skin. Diet is a large contributor to your acne problem. Continue reading to find out details about what the best diet for acne is.

What is the Best Diet For Acne? Get Your Facts Straight Now

So Many Options... Which One is Correct?

Raw food diet, low carbohydrate diet, Atkins diet, vegetarian diet, vegan diet, detoxes, and more. Out of the hundreds of different diets that people swear by, how in the world will we ever know which one is best for acne? Well, we will never know. We can all thrive on most diets. I do not have a specific diet for you, but I do have some general guidelines that you must follow if you wish to have clear skin within a reasonable amount of time.

First, we need to talk about the diet that more than likely you are consuming. The one that is contributing to the killer diseases of the modern era.

The Western Diet - Get Off It Now

Thanks to the large population of the United States (I am one of these people that was born and is currently living here) the industrial revolution is wreaking havoc on millions of people every year. Processed foods and foods that are not grown organically are basically a disgrace to this country.

Injecting cows with growth hormones, antibiotics and more is producing more food. I understand that. But, this food is what contributes to the various diseases. Acne is one of them. Food that is not grown organically is less nutritious and some recognize it as being fake, or not true food. Stuffing chickens inside cages without any room to move around is flat out wrong.

Do not get me wrong here... I love chicken. I am a big eater of chicken and there eggs. But, only organically, free-range raised chicken. I now only buy eggs that are truly pastured. Eggs where the hens are free to roam around on large grass field farms, eating healthy grass and thus providing us with much more nutritious and cleaner protein and fat. And, 100% grass-fed beef is healthier, tastier, and more pleasant compared to conventionally raised beef.

Then their is processed foods. In fact, it is not food. Corn dogs, pizza, TV dinners (what a joke), cookies, pancake mixes, bread, and thousands of other food like substances is harmful to your health. You need to avoid processed foods starting today. Do it for your health!

This western diet causes rapid blood sugar fluctuations, hormone imbalances, liver problems, constipation, and a host of other problems. All leading to acne and other diseases that we created ourselves.

Okay... So What Should You Eat?

Food.

I recommend going back to how we first ate when we arrived on Earth. We were hunters and gathers. We ate loads of vegetables, fruits, animal foods, and nuts and seeds. It was all wild picked and naturally grown. To me, a paleo based diet, also known as primal, caveman, etc. makes the most sense as that is how we adapted.

Also, there was not much cooking back in the day. This is where a raw food diet has its place. I do not believe a 100% raw food diet is feasible for everyone, but eating about 75% raw foods is very ideal. Cook your chicken, beef, lamb, etc. Cook your fish if you wish but mix in some sushi. Eat all fruits raw and eat most of your vegetables raw. If you want them warm with your meal then lightly steam them.

Eat plenty of coconut. Coconut has miraculous healing powers. Hemp seeds are full of vitamins and minerals, are a quality source of protein, have a decent omega 3 to omega 6 fatty acid ratio, are very versatile, and are easy on the wallet when purchased in bulk.

In addition, avoid most, if not all grains. Avoid dairy at all costs as it has an absurd amount of links to acne. If you enjoy grains, then slowly eliminate them from your diet. I recommend avoiding all gluten grains first. I currently enjoy Irish steel cut oats 1-2 times a week. I do not eat any other grains on a regular basis.

The Diet Seems Clear Now... What About Other Areas of Health?

What is Nutrisystem's Price Per Month? I'll Tell You

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

I'm often asked for the total monthly cost of Nutrisystem.  People want to know what they will be spending right down to the penny, including the food, any shipping costs, and any membership or joining fees.   The answer to this is a lot simpler than you might think.  I'll outline this in the following article.

What is Nutrisystem's Price Per Month? I'll Tell You

What You Pay For A Month Of Nutrisystem Depends On What Plan You Chose:  For the most part, the basic plans are priced similarly.  For example, the women's basic, vegetarian, silver, and diabetic plans all cost approximately 9 per month. This is before shipping costs and any coupon discounts.  With the monthly plans, you are shipped enough food to last you for approximately twenty eight days.  During those 28 days, you will eat five times each day.  You are to eat a breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as a snack and dessert.  Now, to be fair, they also want for you to add in fresh and healthy choices at each of the main meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner.)  But, this really doesn't need to cost all that much in terms of groceries because all you really need to do is add a piece of fruit, a salad, or some yogurt or fat free pudding. (These are just examples.  You are given detailed instructions to help you chose your sides.)

Which Nutrisystem Monthly Plans Cost More Or Less Than The Regular Plans?: There are a few of these plans that cost a bit more.  The men's plan cost around 1. The deluxe program, called "Nutrisystem Select," has a price of about 0.  Yes, you are paying more for this plan, but I believe that for some people the cost of the select plan is worth it because the foods are extremely good in terms of taste.  Many more choices are offered and the meals are frozen and are restaurant quality.  If extra dollars has you sticking to the plan and enjoying the program more, then in my mind it's worth it.  And you are still paying less than per day (for five meals) and that's still before coupons.

The cheapest price for a month's worth of Nutrisystem is going to be the "flex plan."  The reason that it costs less is because you are ordering less food.  This plan is sort of a part time plan where you can take any two days of your choosing off each week.  This part time plan only costs about 0 which makes it the cheapest by far. However, if you are figuring out the cost per meal, then you're actually paying a little more here but this can still be a great way to try out the foods for the least amount of money or commitment.

Nutrisystem Coupons, Shipping Costs, and Membership Fees:  I have to get this out of the way. There is no membership fee for this diet.  All of the resources and counseling come without any cost for you.  So, you truly are only paying for your food which makes this plan a little unique.  And, if you sign up for auto ship (where they send you another shipment when the previous one runs out) you'll never be charged for shipping.  (If you want to go month by month, then shipping is generally averaging around .)  And, you should never place an order without using a coupon because if you do, you really are over paying.  The company rotates the coupons, but they are almost always substantial.  You can sometimes get as much as three weeks free or up to 0 off.

Important Facts About Cabbage

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Cabbage is a strong and easy to grow vegetable. It inexpensive, and is found in almost all parts of the world.

Important Facts About Cabbage

Cabbage has been known throughout the ages, both for its nutritional values, and for its medicinal values. It has recently become recognized that it can reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer (such as colon cancer and breast cancer).

Nutritional Facts:

Following is a short listing of the nutritional facts of cabbage:

- Cabbage helps to promote weight loss in some people. This is because of its content of Vitamin C, which helps burn fat, as well as of Vitamin B, which increases metabolism and thereby helps the body burn off fat.

- If one is looking for ingredients of a low calorie diet, cabbage is at the top of the list. One cup of cabbage only holds about 15 calories. It is definitely a weight-loss food.

- Vitamin A Content: Cabbage is a source of Vitamin A which your body needs for healthy skin and eyes.

- Vitamin C Content: Due to its relatively high amount of Vitamin C, cabbage helps boost the Immune System, as well as assisting in removing toxics from the body, and playing a role in burning fat.

- Vitamin E Content: Vitamin E is known for keeping the skin healthy, as well as for assisting oxygen uptake of the blood cells. Having sufficient amounts of Vitamin E in one's body helps to reduce acne.

- Vitamin B: An essential vitamin for your nerve system, also known to assist in reducing stress and in boosting metabolism.

- Drinking juiced cabbage is known to assist in curing stomach and intestinal ulcers.

- Cabbage is even known to help keep your skin in a healthy condition, due to its vitamin E content.

- It contains quantities of fiber and iron, which help to keep the digestive tract and colon in a healthy condition.

This is by no means a complete list of all the benefits of cabbage. It serves to give you a general outline.

In earlier times, the ashes of burnt cabbage leaves were a key ingredient in disinfectant ointments. These days, commercial disinfectants are widely available, so one need not go through motions of burning cabbage in order to disinfect a small cut. The primary benefit of cabbage in modern times comes when it is simply made part of one's diet. Special diets exist which are based on cabbage.

There are many different varieties of cabbage. Green Cabbage and Red Cabbage are the most common, and are the types we are most familiar with.

Other types include Savoy Cabbage, Bok Choy cabbage, and Nappa cabbage (which are used in many Asian dishes, but are equally useful within other recipes).

Does this mean one should switch to a diet of eating only cabbage? Of course not. There are many more vegetables with equally important nutritional ingredients.

But it including cabbage in one's diet on a regular basis can be beneficial health, weight loss, and well-being.

Safe and Effective Ways to Lose Weight Quickly

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

We have all had times in our lives when we needed to lose a few pounds quickly. Whether it's just in time for your high school reunion, your wedding, a hot date, or a vacation on the beach, sometimes we just need a kick start to our weight loss regimen to reach our reduction goals fast. But don't be taken in by fad diets or supplements that promise the impossible. If you want to get rid of a few extra pounds, try these quick, effective and safe methods.

Safe and Effective Ways to Lose Weight Quickly

Fasting/Cleansing

Many people find that by fasting for as short a period as one day, their body's metabolism seems to speed up while the stomach shrinks and that makes it easier to lose weight via a sensible diet in the following days.

Back in the old days, it was common for dieters to go for days with nothing but a few drinks of unflavored water. Today we know that it is not necessary. As long as you sip on clear liquids, there is no reason you can't provide a bit of fuel for your body in the form of a hot lemon toddy with honey, herbal tea, vegetable broth or chicken stock - and that makes it easier to get through a 24-hour cleanse. Dr. Oz has a 3-day cleanse program that allows you to eat quinoa for breakfast and soup for lunch and that is another option for a completely safe way to cleanse your body.

Whole Foods Diet

Often referred to as the Paleo Diet, a whole foods approach to eating allows you to lose weight naturally. The key is in eating foods that are as close to possible as their natural state. That means focusing on fruits, veggies, nuts and whole grains. You don't have to follow a strictly vegetarian or even vegan diet, but let's face it - it is difficult, if not impossible, to eat animal fats, meat and dairy products in their natural state because most of them are subject to some form of processing before they get to the supermarket shelf.

Besides, we need far less protein on a daily basis than we've been led to believe. Nuts, seeds and grains are excellent, low-fat sources of protein sufficient to fuel even a bodybuilder's daily workout regimen.

FIR Technology

A completely safe way to lose several pounds in as little as an hour is to use the power of Far Infrared Ray (FIR) technology. The application of a body wrap that utilizes FIR technology in a salon is easy, efficient and quick; in just one lunch hour you'll see dramatic effects.

FIR works by heating the molecules in your body which, in turn, make you sweat. As you sweat, all manner of noxious toxins are released from your body. The organs responsible for producing sweat are doing hard work and this burns calories. Rather than making your body's fat melt away, Far Infrared Rays break it down into fatty acids your muscles use for energy.

If you've got a few pounds that need to come off now, start with a 24-hour cleanse, then graduate to a sensible diet of whole foods. Use just one lunch hour to treat yourself to a FIR technology body wrap at your local tanning salon (with the added bonus of relaxing your muscles, alleviating joint pain and reducing the appearance of cellulite) and you'll be sure to lose weight quickly but safely.

Born Naked

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

I just read a post from The Veganist, author Kathy Freston who began her article with 'I was not born a Vegan'. She stated that she came into this world with the ideals of her parents and their parents and she lived a meat and potatoes life. She explained her journey into Veganism and why she chose to go down that path into health and wellness. I liked her article as she expressed The Steps to becoming a Veganist and is helping people clear a path for better eating and as we all now understand, better health.

Born Naked

But, I am not a Vegan (anymore) nor am I 100% Raw (anymore), and I wanted to let you all know that "I was born 'Naked'". We were all born 'Naked'. We came into this world stripped of the discomfort and disease that we have placed on ourselves through our lifestyles that our parents passed onto us. No blame there, they were only doing what they knew. And, now I am 'Naked' once again, stripped of the foods that have been weighing me down for as long as I can remember. In my opinion, being a strict Vegan is a commitment that works for some, and I admire the devotion to the cause. It can also be a lifestyle that may strip you of some potentially necessary vitamins and minerals that can only be found in certain animal products, like honey or sea creatures. And, being all RAW is a quest worth pursuing to clean and regenerate the physical body, the brain and the' issues in our tissues', but once we have reached a safe place where disease cannot live, some warm foods can nourish the soul.

I recently spoke at an EXPO where a woman expressed that she keeps trying to eat an all raw diet and after 6 months she inevitably fails. She called herself a "failure" because she didn't fit into a box, a label or a certain way of being. With the deep compassion that one can only feel when someone places such high expectations on oneself, I immediately reassured her that she was a success. She has truly succeeded in trying out a new way of living, nourishing her body, and listening to herself when it wanted something else.

You see, "Getting Naked"- being aware of the foods that weigh you down is essential to success. But, living life to it's fullest without judgment is the only way to insure happiness during the process. Whether you are a Vegan, a Vegetarian, a Paleo, Raw or simply 'Naked', know that making conscious and educated choices is the best way to live.

If you feel more comfortable defining yourself, here is a list to help you find your niche;

NAKED - Stripping away the foods that weigh you down and incorporating more live foods into the diet. (Foods that weigh you down- Dairy, Wheat, Meat, Sugar, Caffeine, and Alcohol)

RAW - Eating un-processed, un-cooked, organic food. Raw foodists typically believe that the greater the percentage of raw food in the diet, the greater the health benefits

VEGAN - Veganism is a diet and lifestyle that seeks to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose. Vegans endeavor not to use or consume animal products of any kind...

PALEO also referred to as the caveman diet, Stone Age diet and hunter-gatherer diet, is a nutritional plan based on the presumed ancient diet of wild plants and animals that various human species...

VEGETARIAN - Vegetarianism is the practice of following a plant-based diet including fruits, vegetables, cereal grains, nuts, and seeds, with or without dairy products and eggs...

SAD - is a dietary habit chosen by many people in developed countries, and increasingly in developing countries, characterized by high intakes of red meat, sugary desserts, high fat, and refined grains...

Whatever you choose, love what you eat and it will love you right back!

In health and Love,

Diana

Delicious Paleolithic Meals

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

A lot of people are already switching to the Paleolithic diet. With that in mind, there is also a rapid growth in the desire for Paleolithic recipes. Paleolithic meals are really simple and very easy to prepare. A normal Paleolithic meal contains a piece of poached meat. Sometimes it can be seared, stewed, or baked as well together with vegetables. There are readily available recipes that will help you take simple yet basic recipes and make it into a flavorful meal.

Delicious Paleolithic Meals

An example of meals to create is steaks with eggs. Steaks with Eggs are important parts of the Paleolithic diet. You can gain two benefits by serving these two together. To prepare this meal, you need large steaks, 2 pieces of eggs, and 2-3 tablespoons of tallow and heat it over medium heat. Put peppers on the steaks, if paprika is available the better. Cook the sides of the steaks on the pan for 4 minutes each to come up with medium-rare steaks. If you like it well done, then you can leave it on the pan until you like the way how it is cooked. Remove the steaks out of the pan and set aside for now. Prepare the eggs until the egg white are not transparent. After cooking the egg you can now serve it with the steaks. For more flavors, dip the steaks in the yolk!

This time, another example of a Paleolithic meal specifically prepared for people who love seafood, an easy meal to prepare is grilled scallops in red pepper sauce. It is delicious too. Prepare the meal by having 12 large bay scallops, 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and a piece of lemon. On how to prepare the red pepper sauce, you need 1 large roasted red pepper, 1 garlic clove, lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. To start preparing the meal, squeeze the lemon juice over the scallops and let them sit for a while. Mix all the ingredients for the red pepper sauce in a food processor and mix it until it will appear as a smooth sauce. Pour now the sauce in a sauce pan and cook over medium heat. After heating the sauce, prepare now the grill pan by heating it and brush it with the coconut oil. Once the grill is hot, you can now cook in the scallops for 3 to 4 minutes on each side. Once the scallops are cooked, place it on a plate and pour in the red pepper sauce.

If your appetite is up for chicken, chicken legs and angel hair cabbage is a good meal for you. It is a good meal and it is very easy to prepare. In this recipe, you will need chicken legs, green onions, and angel hair cabbage. You can prepare the meal by cooking the chicken legs in a portion of water over medium-high heat. Once it is cooked remove it from the pan. The water together with the boiled chicken will serve as chicken broth. Add some green onions and angel hair cabbage on the chicken broth until soft but make sure they are not mushy. Once this is done, add the chicken back on top. Easy as that and Enjoy!

People also prefer vegetables more than meat. Especially for vegetarians. Stir fried vegetables is an example of a meal that you can prepare, especially when your in a rush but cannot skip a meal. Vegetables provide low calories compared to a meat containing meal. But when stir fried vegetables are served together with rice, it will definitely provide you with enough calories that you need. An example of stir fried vegetables that you can try to prepare is sprouts together with carrots, string beans, and a little meat stir fried to your liking. This will definitely be a good paleolithic meal for vegetarians. Just keep in mind that serving a little meat together with the vegetables will fill your stomach in order for you not to get hungry.

You can even recycle leftover meals and create a new meal out of it. Vegetables are good sources of nutrients especially they serve as good anti oxidants. Most of the vegetables contain nutrients that prevent people from cancer.

There are a lot of ways or recipes that work with the Paleolithic diet. You can choose from meat, poultry, seafood and a mixture of fresh vegetables. After choosing a nice meal to prepare, finish it off with dessert using fresh fruits.

Getting Older, Wiser and Fitter

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

I am coming up on 62 years old. But to my amazement, while some may argue that I am not getting any wiser, the stats show I am getting fitter. Two weeks ago I ran a 15k race and was 4 minutes (!!) faster than last year. This week, my 1650 time in the pool was the fastest it's been in at least ten years. This is not to brag. It's only to say that things are possible which at first glance or with common sense, seem not.

Getting Older, Wiser and Fitter

It got me thinking... why? What am I doing that changed the downward spiral that I was not enjoying for the past 10 years?

Here are my successful actions. Perhaps they will help you too.

I had been mostly a vegetarian since age 14. It was then, as a Boy Scout, they took us on field trip to visit the Oscar Meyer Meat Company. The home factory is located in my home town of Madison Wisconsin. When I saw the conveyor belt killing the cows and pigs and then saw the vats of slush that went into hot dogs, I saw the light (just before I nearly barfed and my knees buckled from the grotesque smell) and I was converted. No more meat for me. This did not go over well with my family, particularly with my mother. She was a Gold Medal Blue Ribbon (Jewish) mother who was famed for her brisket and chicken soup with mazah balls that had "surprises" inside. The "surprises" were pieces of chicken fat tucked inside.

This was her invention and she was proud of it. We were a meat and potatoes and rendered chicken fat family. I don't ever remember seeing a salad on the table through most of my childhood. My mom, may she rest is peace, was still so angry at me for doing for not eating her prized cooking (though I did eat my share of her chocolate chip bars) that even two years my vegetarianism, when I turned 16, she didn't allow me to drive her car for a whole year in spite. My diet became lots of grains and yogurt and for the next 46 years I was eating at least 12 ounces of yogurt per day and lots of whole wheat this, brown rice that, and it worked pretty well until about age 50.

Then I started to go downhill. I could not figure out why. My routine blood tests were fine, my physical exam was fine, but I could not do hard workouts without getting injured. About 6 years ago I discovered I was very protein deficient from being a vegetarian and found MAP, and that helped enormously. I began taking 10 tablets before workouts and saw improvements right away. Then about two years ago I was at a medical conference and saw Dr. Loran Cordain give a lecture on The Paleo Diet. If you have not read this book, I recommend it highly. You can get most of the data by going to and reading the FAQ section. It is the anti-diet to what I had been doing for so many years.

Now in our medical clinic we frequently see patients that we test for food sensitivities. Commonly dairy and grains are the biggest offenders. When someone tests positive to these foods, we would routinely have them eliminate them from the diet. This would often yield dramatic improvements in energy, joint pains, digestion, sleep, eczema and mood.

But I never tested sensitive to them. Besides, what would I eat? I lived on dairy and grains. After hearing Dr. Cordain's lecture (he is a Professor of Anthropology at Colorado State) I thought I would do an experiment. I would just eat "The Paleo Diet" (Paleo means "old" in Greek-it is short for Paleolithic (lithos is stone) which is early Stone Age, about 2-2.5 million years ago) and see what happens. This is the diet that these folks ate between about 2.5 million years ago and 10,000 years ago. A long time. So I thought, what the heck, I would give it a couple of months and see if I noticed changes.

The diet consists of what a cave man would eat....meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits, and nuts. In those days, there was no cultivation of grains and no milking of animals. So, on the diet I ate NO GRAINS OF ANY KIND AND NO DAIRY. I did alter the diet by eating some legumes (I was in Israel during this time doing some volunteer work and you can't go there and not eat the Hummus).

Surprisingly to me, after only a few short months on the diet, voila, miracles happened. My tendency to pull muscles in my legs with hard training went away. I eventually (within 4 months) lost 15 pounds of body fat and went from 20% body fat to 6%. I found I could do harder workouts and not get injured, and I started to race really well and took second place in my age group in one 70.3 and 6 th at another. I bettered my time at IMAZ from the year before by over an hour and 15 minutes and got 7 th place in my age group in a very competitive field. I was excited.

I asked myself, could this get any better?

I made another modification. I doubled my MAP intake. Ten twice a day instead of once.

This caused another bump up in fitness. I started doing hard 440s running, hard sets in the pool. I was able to recover. No sickness. Lots of travel and challenges at work. Body stayed good. I haven't broken 25 minutes in a 1650 pool swim in 10 years. I did it last week. 24:58. That's exciting.

TAKING MORE MAP WORKS.

Why? Well here's the scientific rationale. The body, organ by organ and cell by cell, has to turn over (replace) it's proteins. These proteins are the structure of our tissues. Through wear and tear and oxidative stress (from chemical stress of internal combustion and environmental toxins) these proteins get damaged and have to be either repaired or recycled. In our bodies, there are over 50,000 different proteins that have to be in good shape for everything to be working optimally. That's a lot of individual pieces to fix each day.

Additionally, each organ gets rid of its aging cells and makes new ones. The lining of the gut turns over every few days and the bones only every 7 years. The proper rate of turnover only occurs IF there is enough incoming usable protein from the diet to do this. If there is not, those older cells stay until either you supply your body with the needed protein or you die prematurely (because they never got fixed and so they fail earlier than they should.) These body proteins include the immune system and hormones.

So what does taking more MAP do?

It insures quick turnover, and new cell replacement (so faster healing and better structure- so the tissue doesn't injury as easily) and one more critical thing and this will take a paragraph of explanation so you can follow it.

The body takes in fuel (carbs and fats and to some extent proteins) and oxygen, and turns these into packets of energy called ATP. These ATP units of energy are what every cell in the body uses so it can do it's work. It might be ATP for a leg muscle to contract, or ATP for brain computing, or producing saliva. Each cell must be able to have enough ATP OR it won't be able to do it's work. If an adrenal gland can't make enough of it's variety of hormones, you'll be tired all the time, have low blood pressure, suffer from allergies and feel like you're dying. If it has enough ATP so it has energy (and the other things it needs to make the hormones) you'll feel like yourself on a really good day.

Now here's the catch. The tissues that make ATP (they are called enzymes) are also made out of protein. If enough quality protein is not coming in daily from the diet (I will address what is a quality protein in a minute, but lest you think that dairy, soy, beans and rice, spirulina, quinoa, almonds or any other fruit or vegetable is a quality protein, forget that notion right now). Please excuse the long digression, anyway, if enough quality protein is not coming in daily, the proteins that make the energy will not be there in the amounts that they should either. And those and similar proteins (other enzymes) that are needed to digest the food we eat may be lacking also, so the foods don't get digested either.

This is the triple whammy of NOT ENOUGH PROTEIN COMING IN THE BODY: low building blocks to make or repair tissue, low energy to do the repair and other things, and low amounts digestive enzymes to allow the foods that are eaten to be broken down and used.

What do you get? 60 year olds who are going downhill with "normal aging." Unfortunately, this problem is not just in 60 year olds who are prematurely aging, it's occurring with nearly everyone who is walking around. They are not eating enough and assimilating enough quality protein.

Its protein malnutrition! Protein malnutrition causes premature aging and often underlies many of the diseases of aging.

The correction is sufficient amounts of quality protein.

Now, what is the definition of quality protein?

I must digress just one more time to explain this more fully. A protein is a chain made up of smaller pieces of another material. Think of protein as a word. A word is made up of smaller pieces, that we call letters. The letters in a protein are called amino acids. Amino acids are found in nature and there are about 20 of them that our body uses to make its proteins. Amino acids are made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen in various combinations. A few of the amino acids also have sulfur. So we have words, proteins, made up of letters, amino acids. The body assembles the amino acids in different combinations and it gets different proteins.

Now if you imagine there is this innate intelligence in the body that originally built it and now must maintain it. As we said before, our body has 50,000 proteins that make up its structure. A good example would be a common protein found in the body called hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is inside of every red blood cell and its job is to carry oxygen to the tissues. One Hemoglobin molecule is made up of 574 total amino acids! That's a long word. Now really these 574 are made of 20 different amino acids used in various combinations so the "spelling of the word" hemoglobin comes out right. So to build this one hemoglobin unit would take each of these 20 amino acids being available in the body at all times. In actuality there are millions of hemoglobin molecules that are being made or repaired all the time.

Now of these 20 amino acids, there are 8 of them which are most used. They are akin to the vowels in our own alphabet. If you are playing scrabble and you don't have many vowels you won't be able to make many words. These 8 amino acids are called the "essential" ones. They are called essential, because unless they are all present, and all at the same time, and in the right quantity, the body can't make any of its proteins. If you eat a food that does is not a complete protein, i.e. does not have all essential amino acids, the body will not make protein out of it. Period.

With this in mind, we can now define Quality protein. It's a protein that has all eight essential amino acids, in the right balance, so the body can use those amino acids to make its own protein.

For example, we know from scientific experimentation, that if you try to make, for example, hemoglobin out of a dairy (whey or casein) or soy derived protein, that only 16% of those proteins (really the amino acids that make up those proteins) can be used by our body to make protein. The reason they are considered low quality, is that there aren't enough essential amino acids in the right balance for us to use most of them. You do get calories and fuel and waste products but low amounts of protein being made.

Meats and fish are much higher quality. About 33% other their amino acids can be used to make protein in our body. Whole eggs are the best food and 48% of them can be used to make protein. This may be one of the reasons why eating a Paleo diet is better for the body. More quality (animal) protein. By the way, if you only eat the egg white, the quality goes down to only 16%. So cholesterol be dammed (it's not true anyway that eating egg yolk raises your cholesterol) eat the whole egg.

The vegetable proteins, nuts, and spirulina are of very poor quality because the amounts of essential amino acids and the balance of them is poor.

Now MAP is unique in that 99% of the amino acids (no wonder, it is made up of only the 8 essential ones in exactly the right balance) can be used to make protein by the body. It's the highest quality protein known and no food can compare to it. And it's the only amino acid blend available that has all eight essential amino acids in the exact right ratio so that 99% of it can be used for making body protein.

So what did taking an extra 10 MAP do for me each day?

Made me fitter because I could train more, train harder, get injured less, keep my immune system healthy and not get sick because my body could rebuild protein and recover.

Now it's fun to grow older and see things improve. When my dad was 62 he had already had two heart attacks and a triple bypass. My uncles and grandparents were also cardiac cripples by age 60. So for me, this formula of triathlon training + Paleo diet + 10 MAP twice a day (and a few other supplements) can make the golden years golden indeed. I don't wish I was 35, because I feel like I'm 35 and am having more fun now than I did then. Excitedly, I am looking forward for PRs.

Quality Vs Quantity: Which One Matters Most With Food?

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

When it comes to diets, losing weight, and the "health" food industry, there are several routes you can take. So many in fact it can be daunting. Do you try Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, or Nutrisystem? But there's also Atkins, Paleo Diets, Ketogenic, Vegan, Vegetarian, Raw Foods, Gluten Free, Detoxes, and so the list keeps going. How do you know which one to do, or which one is right for you? More importantly, will you keep the weight off?

Quality Vs Quantity: Which One Matters Most With Food?

There may be a ton of different diets out there, but in reality, most diets fall in one of two focuses: the quality of foods and the quantity of foods. With the quantity, it's all about calorie counting and portion control. Weight Watchers is probably the most notorious for using this model with their points system, though Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem follow similar lines. The idea with this dieting philosophy is to eat what you want, but once you reach the limit, you're done.

The pros to this diet is simple enough to see: you don't need abstain from any food, even cheesecake. The cons however, is that you'll find yourself many times already at your quota halfway through the day. It's really more of a gimmick of advertising to say you can eat what you want with these diets. Sure you can have that Baconator with supersize fries, but that's it... for the next 3 days! I may have exaggerated just a little right there, but I've seen friends on these diets do almost that.

Let's look at the other dieting philosophy-Quality Foods. The big focus here is not so much on how much you eat, but what you eat. With Atkins and Ketogenic diets, the focus is high protein with low amounts of carbs. The Paleo diet also does something similar, but the real focus is to stay away from agricultural products, like grains (which is similar to Gluten-free diets). Then you got the other end of the spectrum with Vegetarians and Vegans with meat and animal products avoided. Finally, you have probably the most extreme with the Raw Foods diet/lifestyle, that follows the philosophy, "if you have to cook it, don't eat it."

Pros: with all these different focuses, a common thread is on the quality of the foods you're putting in your body. Many of these diets focus on whole foods more than processed artificial foods. While some Quality focused diets, like Atkins in particular, should not be done as a lifestyle, a lot of them, like Paleo and Vegan, can be. What's more, choosing one of these diets as a lifestyle can lead to long term health benefits and slow aging.

The cons to these diets are that, if unrestricted, they aren't a complete system for healthy change.

The truth is, if you want to lose weight and, more importantly, live a healthy life, you really need a mix of both dieting philosophies. Sticking to good, quality, whole foods is, I believe, the first and most important step. Whether you go ketogenic or Paleo or Vegan doesn't matter as much as the central idea to eat non-processed foods. The problem with foods that are recommended in Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, and Nutrisystem, is that many of them are highly processed and can affect long term health. But their focus on how much you should eat should not be discounted (at least the idea, not necessarily the specifics).

By watching your calories and ratios of carbs, protein, fats, vitamins, and minerals and pairing that with whole-foods, you will not only see results, but ones that will stay with you into your 90's and beyond. Don't diet, eat healthy as a lifestyle.

How to Live a Life of Prevention From Modern Disease

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Following a clean diet provides the most nutrition per calorie, and does not cause any adverse health effects is KEY to good health. The saying "you are what you eat" is so very true. In a nutshell, what you eat your body uses, changes, or stores. I challenge you to find a diet that has more nutrition and less negative health effects, and if everybody's honest, you wont find one. A vegetarian diet lacks protein, essential amino acids, healthy fats, especially omega-3's. I used to be a vegan... didn't last long because I felt like crap and I was hungry every 2 hours. I used to be a pesco-ovo-vegetarian... close, but I didn't eat enough meat and I ate too much grain... I was hungry every two hours and I HAD to have a nap in the middle of the day.

How to Live a Life of Prevention From Modern Disease

I grew up on the typical American diet... hot dogs, hamburgers, mom's homemade macaroni and cheese, and junk food. I didn't know how good I could feel until I started eating Paleo. The purpose of our food is to provide us with energy and nutrition for optimal health and function, not to make us sick. I ask you to ask yourself these questions: Does your diet make your body look good? Does your diet give you energy and make you feel fantastic? In your workout program, does it make you perform better, can you go longer and harder? If the answer to all of these three questions is still no, I challenge you to try the Paleo diet for a month and see if the Paleo diet doesn't make you answer yes to all of these questions.

Because we are genetically the same people as we were thousands of years ago living in a modern world, there are things we are environmentally exposed to that our ancestors were not. For instance, in our air lies environmental pollutants. Our food is injected with synthetic hormones, chemicals, and antibiotics. When we are sick, we are fed drugs that in some cases save lives, they do not address the cause and often times are given to disguise symptoms. When your body experiences symptoms, it's a cry out for help.

The food that you eat effects your health in many different ways. Examples: Eating to many high glycemic foods = high blood insulin = disease. Acidic forming foods = acidic blood = leaching calcium from bones to balance pH of blood = disease (especially osteoporosis). Taking a drug for a disease = Overloading your liver with toxins = more disease. In our modern world, there are so many different pathways to disease that were not concerns of our ancestors, just as their concerns of being eaten by predators are not a concern of ours.

So how do I live a life of Prevention?

Adopt a Paleo diet-- that means avoid all types of sugar (although the occasional honey is fine), grains, dairy, beans and legumes, and alcoholic beverages. Ensure that you are properly following the paleo diet so that you are balancing acidic forming foods with alkaline forming foods. (Meat and everything else = acidic, fruits and vegetables = alkaline). Be cautious of your intake for drugs and antibiotics. Consider a natural alternative if there is one. Do a candida cleanse if you think you may have yeast overgrowth. If you have ever taken antibiotics in your life and not replaced the natural flora with probiotics, you have some yeast overgrowth.

Try to induce a deep sweat once or twice a week, preferably with an infared sauna, a hot coal sauna, or in your home in the bath tub sitting for 30 minutes in water as hot as you can stand it. Make sure that you are properly hydrated prior to sweating! Consider intermittent fasting to give your digestive system a rest and to reset your metabolism. This is proven to increase your longevity. Look it up! Supplement your diet daily with digestive enzymes, probiotics, and a high quality acai supplement Get daily exercise-- move around in some way! I recommend CrossFit and Yoga. Pilates, walking, even just going to the gym will do something. Find something you love so that you stick with it. Keep your body flexible with a daily stretching program or Yoga.

Use Massage Therapy for when those little aches and pains pop up-- you don't want them to get worse and cause chronic issues. Get a chiropractic adjustment once a month. It's not just about your bones and muscles- it keeps your nervous system functioning optimally, Get acupuncture once a month- keeping your energy pathways open can improve your physical, mental, and emotional health.

Take a good look at your lifestyle. I've had many people tell me that they live a "healthy lifestyle" or they "eat healthy" when in fact, everyone has a different definition of healthy. To me, healthy isn't just the lack of disease, it's wellness and fitness. Living a life of wellness and fitness is prevention.

Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

More than 74 million Americans suffer from high blood pressure, according to the American Heart Association. As any person who is diagnosed with high blood pressure can tell you-it's frightening. These medications deplete the body of potassium and magnesium resulting in such ailments as muscle cramps, fatigue and weakness.

Reduce Blood Pressure the Natural Way

People often seek the advise of a naturopath when they have been prescribed medication and are looking for a more natural approach. An assessment of them through blood work often finds numbers approaching hypertension. High blood pressure has many different causes. Finding the root of the problem is the key to a creating a natural treatment plan.

High blood pressure may be caused by high levels of Homocysteine, an amino acid that causes plaque buildup in the arteries and affects blood pressure. This compound can be reduced by administering vitamins B6, B12 and folate. Regular injections of these vitamins often drops blood pressure by 10 to 20 points in as little as six weeks. These vitamins may also be ingested, but it takes longer to work than injections.

High cholesterol may also be an underlying factor. If a person has high cholesterol, they also have high plaque development, which affects blood pressure. Niacin (also known as vitamin B3) is an organic compound used most commonly in modifying cholesterol levels. Magnesium and potassium deficiencies are common with patients placed on diuretics. Depleting the body of potassium also affects magnesium levels, which is one of the top deficiencies in the United States. Using magnesium supplements or eating foods high in both potassium and magnesium may also help to lower blood pressure.

Diet and Food to Treat High Blood Pressure:

Vitamins B6 and B12: dairy, beef, chicken, eggs and pork. Vegetarians are at a higher risk for deficiency in these vitamins and may want to take supplements.

Folate: spinach, asparagus, lentils and collard greens are excellent sources.

Magnesium: nuts such as almonds, walnuts, cashews and peanuts, halibut, soybeans, spinach and oatmeal.

Potassium: bananas, apricots, beans, tomatoes, melons, potatoes, peas dates and figs.

Mediterranean diet: The Paleo-Mediterranean diet helps hypertension and lowers blood pressure. It is composed of nuts, colorful vegetables and fruits, which are full of nutrients such as vitamins B6, B12, folate and magnesium. It also consists of a combination of whole grains, seeds, legumes, seafood and good fats like olive oil. These healthy foods consumed in small portions help to make a healthy heart and body.

Herbs

Hawthorne Berry: This herb works as a vasodilator. It dilates the arteries and allows for more oxygen and blood flow. Hawthorne berry is a very nutritive herb for the cardiac system in general and is found in most herbal formulations.

Garlic: Garlic not only tastes wonderful, it also lowers blood pressure and cholesterol. It can be consumed raw or in supplements. For patients suffering from high blood pressure, there may be a number of causes. Finding the root cause is crucial to finding the right treatment plan. It is always important to seek the health care advice of a naturopathic physician before administering herbal remedies.

Reactive Hypoglycemia - Why a Vegetarian Diet Could Be the Cure

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Reactive hypoglycemia can cause an array of distressing symptoms when blood sugar drops: sweating, shaking, heart palpitations, cold extremities. Most of the advice disseminated on the web concentrates on the type of diet (atkins, paleo etc.) rather than the actual make-up of the food stuffs in the diet. There's an overwhelming amount of evidence that switching to a vegetarian diet will aid in keeping hypoglycemia at bay.

Reactive Hypoglycemia - Why a Vegetarian Diet Could Be the Cure

The main culprits that cause blood sugar drops are simple carbs and sugars. Simple carbs and sugars are found in abundance in the typical american diet, but are typically absent from a vegetarian diet.

1. White bread, pizza, burger buns and other white breads are generally limited or absent from a vegetarian diet (for example, most cheese contains rennet from the inside of a slaughtered calf's stomach, so vegetarians do not eat it).

2. Spaghetti and pasta is eaten in limited quantities by vegetarians, mostly because they avoid the meat based sauces. Swapping noodles for whole grain pasta is a healthy alternative.

3. Vegetarians typically avoid processed foods because of the hidden animal products like glycerin and gelatin that make the majority of processed foods out of bounds. By avoiding processed foods, vegetarians avoid the sugar and high fructose corn syrup commonly found as an added ingredient in bakery goods, pies and frozen meals.

4. Pastries, muffins, candies, and cakes often have gelatin as a base. For example, gummy bears are made from boiling cow bones down and adding sugars and flavoring. By avoiding the gelatin, vegetarians avoid the sugar!

5. Restaurant meals: for a vegetarian, eating our is often difficult because of "hidden" animal ingredients (like fish and beef bases for vegetable soups). Most restaurant meals are padded with fat, sugars, and other ingredients designed to make you want to eat more.

6. High fat meats and the typical accompaniments (french fries, baked potato, potato salad) are blood sugar death for hypoglycemics. Avoiding meat often involves avoiding the fat, sugar, and starch heavy items. Meat analogies like quorn or vegan burgers are nutrient dense and low in fat.

Foods to Eat to Lower Your Cholesterol

,
Vegetarian Paleo Diet :

Lowering your cholesterol can be difficult because you do not always know what you should and should not eat. You may think you're eating the right thing, but it may contain hidden cholesterol in the form of palm or coconut oils. However, there are foods that you can eat that will lower your cholesterol.

Foods to Eat to Lower Your Cholesterol

Are you one of the people that cringe whenever someone suggests that they eat tofu? The goods news is that tofu recipes have significantly improved since the 1970's. Soy is one of the foods that have man health benefits, including the ability to lower cholesterol. You do not need to just eat tofu. Excellent sources of soy include textured vegetable proteins, soy milk, and soy cheese.

Garlic is another food that can help lower elevated cholesterol levels. If you love Italian food, this is very easy for you. Fresh garlic can be added to almost all types of cuisine. It is especially easy to add to soups, stews, and vegetables. If you do not like that taste of garlic, you can take a garlic supplement. These supplements are widely available in pharmacies and grocery stores.

Many meats are very high in saturated fats. For that reason, many doctors and nutritionists are recommending that their patients eat more vegetarian meals per week. This is becoming a very popular trend. As a result, there are more and more delicious vegetarian recipes available. Be aware, however, that you should avoid meals that include fried vegetables including tempura and the traditional preparation for eggplant parmesan.

We've all seen those commercials that encourage people to eat oatmeal because it lowers cholesterol. This is true. Increasing the amount of soluble fiber in your diet will significantly lower your cholesterol levels. Good sources of soluble fiber include oats, barley, flaxseed, sweet potatoes, apples, and carrots. If you do not care for these foods, you can also add fiber powder to your daily coffee or tea. This is a "painless" way to add more soluble fiber to your diet.

Drinking apple juice every day can also help to lower elevated cholesterol levels. Apple juice contains a high level of phenols. These phenols prevent the oxidation of LDL, meaning that the LDL will not be able to attach to the blood vessels. Instead, they will pass through the excretory system.

Changing you diet can be difficult, but the added benefits to your health will be well worth any sacrifice you make. You can even ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist in order to incorporate more healthy changes to your diet.
